Crowley’s Jensen Maritime has introduced two new, liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunker barge concepts, featuring an option to customise as per specific requirements.
Jensen’s first concept offers an outfitting of an existing barge with an above-deck LNG tank and it can be further modified to accommodate more than one type of product.
The second concept is for a purpose-built, new bunker barge that provides better carrying capacity and improved visibility.
The second design features a larger LNG tank that is located inside of the barge in addition to latest safety features and efficiencies.
Jensen Maritime vice-president Johan Sperling said: “We understand that customers have very different needs when it comes to LNG.
“Whether LNG is required for the long or short term, or in larger or smaller quantities, Jensen has a bunkering solution. We are proud to continue leading the way with LNG marine solutions.”

Jensen Maritime said these new barges are an ideal resource for customers who have LNG needs at ports that are not located near an LNG terminal or as an alternative to over-the-road transportation.
These designs offer more efficient outfitting, construction and assembly as they are developed using its proprietary production engineering capabilities, the company stated.
In July, Jensen Maritime received ‘approval in principle’ from ABS for its LNG bunkering articulated tug-barge (ATB).
With a flexible design, the vessel will be able to facilitate the transfer and use of small-scale LNG in places with limited infrastructure, including offshore locations.
