DB Schenker will move to a new facility in Manchester in the UK to meet its expansion plans in the region. The new site is located at the business site, Trafford Park, and includes almost 50,000 sq ft of warehousing and office space. It will open later this year.
The company said that the new site would allow it to cater for its expansion in air, ocean, land and contract logistics across the region. It will offer an X-ray machine for screening airfreight and designated zones for consolidating shipments across all transport modes.
The facility will have 50% of its roof area covered by solar panels and at ground level there will be a series of electric charging points to cater to both the company’s electric trucks and staff vehicles.
Once established, DB Schenker aims to recruit across a variety of roles from sales to warehouse operatives. The move will also mean it can continue to support an apprenticeship programme in the UK.
DB Schenker’s Adrian Jennings, ocean director UK and Ireland, said: “Our intention with the opening of our new facility in this important part of the country is to continue to invest in infrastructure and people.”
