Australia-based BMD Constructions has received a A$28m ($20m) contract from the New South Wales (NSW) government for the upgrade of Wyong Road and Enterprise Drive intersection at Berkeley Vale.
The upgrade work will include replacing the existing roundabout with traffic lights to improve traffic flow and safety.
NSW parliamentary secretary for the Central Coast Scot MacDonald said: “The NSW government has allocated A$28m ($20m) for the upgrade of Wyong Road and Enterprise Drive intersection.”
“The project is designed to ease congestion at the intersection to provide more reliable travel times during peak hours.”
In December 2014, Roads and Maritime Services had started preliminary work, which includes site establishment and utility relocation to prepare for major work for the intersection upgrade.
According to MacDonald, the project is designed to ease congestion at the intersection to provide more reliable travel times during peak hours for the more than 48,000 motorists using this intersection daily.
Furthermore, he also noted that the scope of work will include construction of new turning lanes from Chittaway Road to Wyong Road and into Enterprise Drive.
Additionally, shared pathways will also be built for cyclists and pedestrians on both sides of Wyong Road and along Enterprise Drive to Hereford Street.
Scheduled to be initiated next month, the upgrade work is expected to be completed in late next year if weather permits.
