Queensland Government Department Transport and Main Roads in Australia has awarded an £80m road infrastructure contract to Amey, a public and regulated services provider in the UK.
Amey will deliver the new contract in joint venture with Australian infrastructure companies – Leighton Contractors and Boral Construction Materials.
The five-year Road Asset Management Contract (RAMC) will see the joint venture maintain and improve more than 1000km of road network, including over 650km of state and national roads in the South Coast Region of South East Queensland.
The network runs from the south of metro district of Brisbane to the New South Wales border, and comprises the Gold Coast where the 2018 Commonwealth Games will be held.
Amey chief executive Mel Ewell said this is the first Australian contract that the company has secured and it is proud to bring UK engineering services to Australia.
“We continue to increase our presence and portfolio overseas through our world-leading asset management expertise in our consulting business,” Ewell said.
“I’m delighted to have won this deal and look forward to working with our partners in Australia, to deliver excellence in road asset management for the people of Queensland.”
The scope of the new contract includes asset management, including identification and design of improvement projects, delivery of programmed and rehabilitation schemes, routine maintenance, as well as 24/7 incident response.
Routine maintenance and incident response activities will begin at the end of November, while the adoption of the full contract will run from January 2014 to June 2018.
