Spanish construction group Obrascón Huarte Lain (OHL) has secured a Nkr2.3bn ($280m) engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract from the Norwegian National Rail Administration for the Follo Line Project.
OHL will begin work immediately to build the Langhus-Ski section of the Follo Line, as well as a major public transport interchange at Ski.
This is the third of six EPC contracts to be awarded for the Follo Line, which is currently the largest infrastructure project in Norway.
Norwegian National Rail Administration and the Follo Line Project project director Erik Smith said: “OHL has become our third main partner to make this megaproject a success.
“OHL has become our third main partner to make this megaproject a success.”
“We are looking forward to start the main works at Ski and we are aware that many residents in the Ski area will follow the construction work closely.
“OHL has experience from execution of high-speed railway further south in Europe, and it is a pleasure to welcome the company to Norway.”
The project includes a 22km-long new double track line between Oslo Central Station and the public transport hub at Ski.
Work will also involve construction of a 20km railway tunnel (twin-bore), extensive works at Oslo Central Station, construction of a new station at Ski and necessary realignment of the existing inbound Østfold line.
The Follo Line is scheduled for completion by the end of 2021, and forms the core part of the InterCity development southwards from Oslo.
It is split into the six main EPC contracts including EPC Oslo S (two contracts), EPC TBM, EPC D&B, EPC Ski and Signal.
