AECOM Technology Corporation has been contracted to provide services for 15 separate infrastructure projects at locations around Cape Town, Postmasburg and Saldanha, in South Africa.
Under the three-year $30m contract, AECOM will provide engineering, procurement, construction management (EPCM) and project-close-out services for the projects, which will be delivered for Transnet SOC Limited.
Transnet is a South African state-owned company responsible for freight rail, port, fuel pipelines and other major infrastructure improvements.
AECOM’s various teams from Africa, Australia and North America have partnered to deliver services under the projects.
Chairman and chief executive officer John Dionisio said: “This series of projects serves as a great example of the breadth of capabilities and expertise that AECOM teams around the world bring to our clients.
“Building on our ongoing relationship with Transnet from projects such as the proposed Durban Dig-out Port, our integrated team is eager to continue partnering with this key client to implement critical infrastructure improvements.”
The proposed projects are rail and material-handling infrastructure for a new railroad car rotary dumper in Saldanha, expansion of the container terminal in the Port of Cape Town and new iron ore train-loading facilities at Postmasburg.
The other projects include fire-suppression system upgrades at various locations, resurfacing of various berths in the Port of Cape Town, new-build port buildings and several building upgrades and expansions.
The construction value of each of the projects amounts to $150m, while the total value is expected to be nearly $2.2bn.
