The close cooperation between Plasser & Theurer and Israel Railways began in 1994 with the first supply of an electronic measuring vehicle EM80.
It was the beginning of numerous successful projects for an economic and environmental railway system. Subsequently, a series of tamping machines for plain track and switches and crossings, such as Unimat 08-275, Unimat 08-275 3S and 09 CSM, were delivered for the maintenance of the Israeli track network. Israel Railways also relies on Plasser & Theurer machines for the track-bound maintenance of permanent way.
Five permanent way motor vehicles of the OBW 10 and OBW 100 types have already been successfully operated for a number of years.
With the most recent acquisition of a multi-purpose measuring vehicle EM120H, equipped with a contactless track geometry measuring system, IR disposes of a holistic and sustainable programming of maintenance for its railway infrastructure.
By means of four video systems, the EM120H records the track environment, inspects tunnel walls, and detects error spots in the track, such as rail surfaces or running edges.
In addition, a lack or excess of ballast, the position of the catenary and the distance to the track axis of the neighbouring tracks or to the edge of the platform can be recorded. Hence, a comprehensive machine fleet is available to Israel Railways for a safe railway network.
