- The Gambia Ports Authority (GPA) was founded in 1972 and has the Port of Banjul as its spearhead.
- Its role as a facilitator of trade in the area requires a high level of efficiency in the internal management of the Port. To meet the changing demands of the maritime industry, the GPA requires the implementation of a modern Port Management Information System to improve the efficiency of Port’s operations.
- Prodevelop, a leader in the digitalisation of Spanish ports, has been chosen to implement its Port Management Information System together with the local company Lasting Solutions, with extensive experience in the IT sector.
The GPA has reaffirmed its commitment to the digitalisation of operations and for this it has assigned the Spanish company Prodevelop, together with its local partner – Lasting Solutions, for the implementation of its Port Management Information System: Posidonia Management.
The digital transformation of the port sector is a must these days, and even more so if we take into account the obligation to have a Maritime Single Window that the IMO imposed since January 2024. But, to get off to a good start on the path to digitalisation, it is essential to first focus on the internal management of the port.
To digitalise and optimise the port’s internal processes, the key tool is the Port Management Information System (PMIS). Thanks to this program, the GPA will be able to improve the efficiency of the port’s internal operations and offer a better service to its customers, including its concessionaire
The use of Posidonia Management will benefit the Port Authority with the improvement of vessels and cargo handling processes, reducing vessel response times, strengthening security measures within GPA’s port facilities, ensuring compliance with international maritime regulations and standards, improving data management and reporting capabilities.
In addition, it will be in the AWS cloud that will add to the above benefits, the ease of scaling, the cybersecurity that a partner like Amazon provides, the generation of backups and the speed of implementation, as it does not require on-premise installations of other programs.
The agreement also includes technical support and maintenance service, so that the GPA will always be supported by Prodevelop and will be given corrective, preventive, evolutionary, adaptive and perfective service, thus guaranteeing the perfect functioning of the program.
With this step, the GPA is armed with a battery of functionalities that will allow it to validate its leadership in the area, as well as lay the foundations for the improvements in digitalisation that it will undertake in the future.
For its part, Prodevelop continues its work, helping its African clients to improve their results and digitalise their operational processes, facilitating and optimising their day-to-day operations.
