International and U.S.-destined passengers using the new International Terminal at Calgary International Airport (YYC) will be able to enjoy the best of Calgary, and some distinctive regional, national and global shops and services, in a unique environment.
The Calgary Airport Authority announced today that travellers will have access to more than 50 additional shopping and dining locations, with an array of trusted brands and premier service offerings in the airport’s new International Terminal, opening in late 2016. The new facility will feature flagship restaurants, as well as a great selection of local eateries, allowing passengers from all over the world the opportunity to experience the flavours of Calgary. Eighty-five per cent of the new shops and services will be located post-security, a much higher percentage than the current mix at Calgary International Airport.
“We are excited about expanding YYC’s first-rate shopping and restaurant program; these additions, along with leading-edge technologies offered in the International Terminal will offer passengers a completely new and enhanced experience,” said Stephan Poirier, Senior Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer for The Calgary Airport Authority. “As an international hub, we are focused on finding the right variety of services to meet the needs of our diverse passenger mix, and it’s great to be able to give them exposure to a blend of local and international shopping options and flavours.”
Calgary-based local eateries in the new Terminal will include: Hana Sushi, a 4th Street favourite from the heart of Calgary’s Mission neighborhood; Green Chili, a Calgary-based chain serving traditional and original Indian cuisine; Vin Room, named by Where Magazine as a Top Restaurant in the ‘Best for Wine Category 2014’; and Spolumbo’s, a renowned Calgary-based Italian deli.
YYC will also welcome Wolfgang Puck, with its first restaurant location in Calgary and only its second Canadian location. In addition, Menchie’s Frozen Yogurt, the international chain will be opening its first airport location, while Stella on the Bow will bring a fresh new restaurant concept to YYC.
The new International Terminal will also feature a mix of established YYC shopping concepts, as well as some new retailers.
There will be two new large locations for Duty Free, operated by one of the world’s leading travel retailers, in the new International Terminal, each offering more than 5,000 square feet of shopping for premium items including liquor, cosmetics, fragrances, fashion, electronics and imported sweets.
New international and regional operators of note include a Desigual fashion boutique, Lammle’s Western Wear & Tack, Metalsmith’s Sterling fine jewelry, and Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory, which will all complement existing YYC favourites When the new facility opens in 2016, passengers at Calgary International Airport will be able to enjoy more than 175 shops and services between the existing and new facilities.
