Emirates Falcon Electromechanical Company (EFECO) has won a joint venture contract to carry out mechanical, electrical, and plumbing work at the new Midfield Terminal Building (MTB) at the Abu Dhabi International Airport.
The AED878m contract was awarded to a joint venture of EFECO, BK Gulf, and China State.
It was awarded by consortium comprising Arabtec Construction, TAV Construction, and Consolidated Contractors International, which won the AED10.8bn ($2.93bn) contract for the construction of MTB.
As part of the contract, EFECO will be involved in delivering the complex mechanical scope of the project.
Arabtec Holding managing director and CEO Hasan Abdullah Ismaik said: “We are pleased with this new contract win, adding to EFECOs already impressive backlog which has already crossed the AED1bn mark.”
Earlier this month, Abu Dhabi International Airport erected the first steel arch of the MTB, a move which marks the launch of the roof structure sequence of the mega gateway.
The new terminal building will span 700,000m², and will accommodate up to 65 aircraft, including the Airbus A-380, and will have a capacity to handle 30 million passengers per year.
The MTB is slated to open in 2017, will feature 165 conventional counters and 48 self-service kiosks capable of handling 8,500 passengers, both arriving and departing, per hour.
Featuring a ceiling 52m tall at its highest point, the MTB will be visible from more than 1.5km away.
The MTB is a part of the airport’s Midfield Terminal Complex (MTC), which will also feature passenger and cargo facilities, and duty-free shops and restaurants for a total capacity of 27-40 million people a year.
