Dubai International Airport has awarded a contract of worth AED35m ($9.5m) to Drake and Scull Rail, a subsidiary of Dubai-based contractor Drake and Scull International (DSI), to build a new airport passenger movement (APM) system.
The contract covers MEP and specialised electrical services for the new automated APM system connecting terminal one with the concourse four, which has been commissioned by the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority.
DSI stated that the scope of work also includes the production and submission of shop and fabrication drawings, provision of railway-specific services such as signals, traction power, maintenance of area power, compressed air and communication systems as well as minor construction works.
Drake & Scull Rail operations director Darko Macura said: “We are delighted to secure our first rail project in the Middle East, and are excited and proud to be a part of the prestigious Dubai International Airport project that combines airport and railway infrastructure.”
Al Jaber LEGT Engineering & Contracting will be mainly responsible for the development of the concourse four while Bombardier Transportation Holdings will offer rolling stock and rail technologies at the Dubai International Airport.
A monorail system is also being developed by Bombardier between concourse four and terminal one for passenger transport.
