As part of its smart airport project, Hamad International Airport (HIA) has formally introduced a ground-breaking Digital Twin idea. Through a simple 3D interface, this Digital Twin offers a live view of the airport. Its robust analytical engine combines data from several airport systems to produce wise recommendations that aid in maximising operations.
To enable better, quicker, and data-driven decision making, the development merged 3D modelling techniques with data analytics and artificial intelligence.
The Digital Twin controls aircraft stand conflicts, facilitates quick reactions to notifications, and keeps an eye on the condition of vital airport infrastructure. Additionally, it efficiently uses the appropriate data at the appropriate moment to enable resource optimization and reduce asset downtime.
The airport business is becoming more and more aware of how important airport operations may be supported by Digital Twin technology. At the Qatar IT Business Awards, HIA’s Digital Twin effort won an award for being named the Smart Solution of the Year.
Hamad International Airport, in accordance with industry partner SITA, is actively trying to shape the destiny of the travel sector by being one of the handful of airports in the world to establish a fully operational digital twin and test with demanding use cases, ushering in a new era of efficiency, said Suhail Kadri, senior vice president of Technology & Innovation at Hamad International Airport.
This unique technology will develop further and fundamentally alter the way operational teams use information and make choices across the airport. They are excited to lead the way in this field and hasten the adoption of this ground-breaking technology, which will eventually benefit travellers, the airline partners, as well as all airport stakeholders, said Kadri.
SITA’s Middle East and Africa president, Hani El-Assaad, congratulated HIA on winning the Smart Solution of the Year award. He said that they are thrilled that the victory included their digital twin technology.
Technology investments at Hamad Airport
For airports wanting to streamline operations that are extremely complex and involve numerous stakeholders, assets, and activities, the digital twin offers enormous potential. One can record everything happening at an airport in a comprehensive picture by building a digital twin of the airport. This has made it possible for HIA to make better decisions and streamline their processes.
As a result of these initiatives, Hamad International Airport has emerged as the primary technological leader in the area. The award-winning airport has a stated goal of becoming the world’s leading digital air hub by reconstructing its operations in a digitally effective and safe manner.
