Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) in Philippines has inaugurated new urban traffic signal system of Metro Manila.
The system is developed by Indra and has an advanced control centre equipped with the company’s Hermes solution, helping to improve mobility in the area.
The €5.5m project awarded to Indra included the construction of a modern 24/7 Command Control and Communications Center (Metrobase v2.0) in a consortium with the Philippine company Meralco Industrial Engineering Services (Miescor).
The first phase of this project involved installation of traffic controllers and traffic light regulators for 85 key intersections which are integrated in a control centre at the Metrobase v2.0 through the Hermes system.
A new surveillance system has also been installed with 25 HD traffic control cameras for monitoring of vehicle circulation and road-related incidents at the city’s main points.
The technology implemented at Metro Manila improves the traffic flow and reduces travel times, which will in turn help lower fuel consumption and emissions.
Indra argues that the technology is prepared to manage future mobility with its ability to control more than 500 intersections.
Besides this project, Indra is involved in several other programmes in Phillipnes, including renewal of the toll system of the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX).
The company also has presence in other sectors such as energy and utilities.
