Gaztransport & Technigaz’s (GTT) digital company Ascenz has received a contract from a major European ferry owner to deploy its Smart Bunkering solution on two vessels.
The tool is designed to eliminate errors and malpractices that affect the quantity of bunkered fuel through accurate monitoring of the bunkering process.
Ascenz’s Smart Bunkering functionality integrates advanced digital technologies, including mass flow meters, on-board software, communication devices and cloud computing, into one single solution.
This solution helps the charterer as well as the crew to better monitor the running of the bunkering process as well as offering transparency.
The tool automatically alerts the on-board crew with a warning light and buzzer when an error or abnormal behaviour is identified by the system.
Furthermore, the onshore crew can gain access to detailed online analysis and get email alerts. Ascenz CEO Julien Glory said: “This first order recorded by our ‘Smart Bunkering’ solution in Europe marks a key milestone in the development of Ascenz.
“In a context of high energy cost, we believe that our experience and our technology will greatly benefit European shipowners and charterers in controlling their bunker cost.”
GTT digital and information vice-president Anouar Kiassi said: “We are very happy to bring our experience and technology in this field into the European market and to see new shipowners adopting our solution, which has been proven in many regions around the world.”
Earlier this month, GTT won a contract from Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) for the tank design of seven new liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier vessels.
