BDZ Passengers Services Ltd. has announced a public procurement with the subject “Delivery and warranty maintenance of up to 16 new EMUs”, designed to serve fast /InterCity/ trains for trips over 3 hours, along the main Bulgarian railways.
The estimated value of the procedure is about BGN 247 000 000, as the technical requirements are for the EMUs to be 4 or 5 sections with provided maximum comfort for the passengers; first and second class sections and space for disabled people and strollers; with video surveillance, WI- FI and an option for catering area, with operating speed of 160 km / h. The parameters are in accordance with the current state of the railway infrastructure and the investment and development strategy of the Bulgarian National Railway Infrastructure Company.
The main parameters of the public procurement are the purchase price of the EMUs, as well as the cost of the maintenance and the cost of transporting per passenger. The procurement will be in two stages – an application for participation and the submission of technical and price offers.
It is expected that the newly produced EMUs will be delivered within 36 months from the date of signing the contract and the first train to be delivered within 24 months of the contract.
The procedure is part of the general strategy of BDZ to improve the conditions for passenger transportation and strategic development of the state railways, including the renovation of the existing fleet park and the purchase of new rolling stock, thus meeting the challenges of competitive environment.
