Mace, the UK- based manufacturing firm has been granted a contract by Siemens Mobility to support the development of new £200m rail manufacturing facility in Goole, in the Yorkshire county at England.
The construction site is located on a 104-acre area which is near junction 36 of the M62 motorway. The contract will include manufacturing, commissioning, warehouse buildings and stabling sidings spread over an area of 860,000ft². Apart from this, there will also be a construction of the four-storey office building covering an area of 54,000ft². As mentioned in the contract, Mace’s work purview will include providing services for project and cost management, health and safety work, and environmental expertise to Siemens Mobility and thus will the development of the manufacturing facility.
Work on the rail manufacturing facility post the necessary planning approval is expected to begin in the spring of next year and will be delivered in phases. The first phase of the project is expected to open in 2023 and believed to be fully operational by 2025. Colin Harvey, Mace Director for North said that they are delighted to be a part of this project which is led by Siemens Mobility as it brings together some key sectors which are driving the Northern Powerhouse, including manufacturing, industrial and rail development. He further went on to say that Mace’s appointment to deliver this significant northern asset is a testament to the success of the previous projects that were undertaken with Siemens, including Green Port Hull. As expected, the project will help in meaningful job creation. Around 700 jobs and an additional 250 are going to come up during the construction period. Furthermore, it is expected to create 1,700 UK supply chain roles.
Siemens Mobility CEO William Wilson on this development has expressed his delight to be closely working with the Mace team as they drive forward the plans to develop an industry-leading rail factory and ancillaries in Goole. According to him, Mace’s experience and capacity will complement Siemens’s in-house expertise in the successful delivery of major projects.
Not so long ago in 2016, Mace and Siemens mobility had joined hands together to develop £310m Green Port Hull project which had wind-turbine blade factory and logistics& port facilities.
