Ford is developing a Traffic Jam Assist technology, which could make driving on congested roads less stressful.
This technology helps driver keep the vehicle in the middle of the lane while brakes and accelerator help keep pace with the vehicle ahead.
“Traffic Jam Assist is one of the several driver assistance technologies being developed by Ford.”
During peak traffic jam, drivers can activate the system with a press of the button.
With the help of a grille-mounted radar, Traffic Jam Assist can identify the position of vehicles in front, while a front-facing camera placed behind the windscreen helps to identify the location of lane markings.
Using pedals, steering wheel and indicators, the driver can, at any point of time, overtake the vehicles ahead, reported Traffictechnologytoday.com.
When there is a lack of steering input, the system gives out audio and visual warnings.
Ford and Germany’s Meyer-Hentschel Institute recently developed a unique suit that warns drivers of the consequences of driving under the influence of drugs such as cannabis, cocaine and heroin.
According to National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), almost 18% of all motor vehicle driver deaths are due to intake of drugs other than alcohol.
Driving under the influence of drugs leads to poor coordination, distorted vision, slowed reaction and hand tremors.
